Inclusivity and community are at the heart of BSAC, its clubs and its members. This includes people within the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community.

If members feel valued and receive equal opportunities they are more likely to remain a member and promote their club or BSAC, generally, to others. Inclusivity in sport is important and ensures that it is welcoming to everyone, regardless of race, age, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

You’ll find people in all sports who are out and open about their sexual orientation and gender identity. These individuals feel supported and at home in their club and never feel held back from taking part. However, according to Sport England, many LGBTQ+ people continue to feel (and expect) that sport may not welcome them. They often feel that it’s best to keep that part of themselves private or worry that people might react badly if they are found out.

Taking small steps can make a big difference to how welcome lots of individuals feel. You have the power to influence your club and our community for the better.

Being open-minded and non-judgemental about a person's sexual orientation and/or gender identity, even if you don't personally understand it yet, is the first step towards becoming a more welcoming and inclusive club.
