BSAC’s MOD 2 CCR Diver course is a great way to extend your existing CCR diving skills by learning how to safely dive to 60m.

You’ll learn to safely plan deeper closed-circuit rebreather diving, manage two bailout cylinders, and deal with any issues that may arise underwater.

To attend this course you must have already successfully completed MOD 1 AP Vision CCR Diver course, the old air diluent CCR course, or equivalent from another recognised training agency.

Additionally, students must have:

  • 50 dives and 50 hours diving with a CCR
  • 25 dives and 25 hours diving with the type of CCR being used on the course
  • 10 CCR dives to at least 30m with decompression at multiple levels

The minimum age to commence the course is 18 years old.

You will learn the skills and knowledge to plan and conduct dives to 60m.

The theory lessons provide further information on physiology, decompression planning, equipment configuration and more advanced emergency strategies.

During the practical sessions, your equipment configuration will be optimised to allow the efficient management of two bailout cylinders. The initial dives are conducted in shallow water to allow safe acquisition of new skills which are then progressively extended to depth on the open water dives.

This is a continually assessed course during which students must reach the required performance standards.

A BSAC MOD 2 CCR Diver is competent to plan and conduct CCR dives using gas mixes containing at least 16 per cent oxygen and a maximum of 50 per cent helium. This will extend your maximum dive depth to 60m.

You could do this course at a regional event, local club or a Technical centre. Not all clubs and technical centres run BSAC MOD 2 CCR Diver courses, so please check if you are interested.

Alternatively, find a tech instructor near you to arrange your training.

Not a BSAC member? You can do this course by joining BSAC directly or joining via a local club. Find a club.

Students will be provided with electronic learning materials.

Along with full open-water dive kit suitable for local conditions, you will also need a CCR and two bailout cylinders with a minimum capacity of seven litres each. Further details will be provided by your instructor.

Your next steps – developing your skills

After completing a MOD 2 CCR Diver course and consolidating your skills, your options for deeper diving significantly expand.
