Candidate applications are being accepted for the BSAC Election 2026, which will see some new faces joining the Council team. BSAC is now looking for top calibre applications for several key BSAC Council positions: Vice-Chair and Honorary Secretary plus two ordinary Council members. 

For the right candidates, the BSAC Election 2026 is a significant opportunity to play a role in the growth and development of the UK’s governing body for scuba diving and snorkelling.  

The coming year will also see some key developments as BSAC works to inspire more people to enjoy the underwater world while delivering a world-class training and diving experience for all. And, as a Council member, you will not only represent the interests of all our members but work to futureproof both BSAC and our sport.

BSAC Chair Andy Shenstone said he hoped to see members with relevant skills as well as a passion for BSAC’s values put their names forward for the Election 2026:

BSAC has some real opportunities as well as challenges ahead and we need the people with the right mix of skills and experience to join the Council team. We are looking for members with senior level business and governance skills to guide BSAC’s future.

Skills and experience

BSAC Council would particularly welcome applications from members who have board-level or senior management expertise in any of the following areas: 
 

  • Charity or National Sports Governing Body
  • Membership based organisations
  • Strategic financial management
  • Commercialisation and income diversification
  • HR
  • AI and its evolving applications

Potential candidates should be aware of the time commitment required of BSAC council members before submitting their application. This includes preparation reading and attendance at meetings, which take place six times a year, as well as time at BSAC HQ, conferences and shows as required. Council members will also be expected to spend time on tasks and projects allocated to them.

Post-specific requirements

In addition to the role of ordinary Council members, there are additional skills and experience requirements for the post of Vice Chair and Honorary Secretary: 

  • Vice Chair - Must be able to deputise for the Chair as required and has additional responsibilities for Council engagement with members and stakeholders; leading agreed strands of strategic project governance; specific to candidate strengths.
  • Honorary Secretary - Is responsible for governance effectiveness and administering the processes and policies underpinning Council business management. Candidates for the role should understand the essential aspects of administering committee and board business.

All applications must be received by BSAC’s Honorary Secretary c/o CEO Mary Tetley at maryt@bsac.com by 23:59 on 31 January 2026. 

All nominees for the BSAC Election 2026 must also be listed as a paid-up full BSAC member on the BSAC database at as 23:59 on 31 January 2026.Members may only apply for one position.

Special Resolutions and Motions

Any Special Resolutions/Motions to be raised at BSAC’s AGM 2026 must also be submitted by 23:59 on 31 January 2026.  

Special Resolutions/Motions to be raised at the AGM submitted by a branch committee must be accompanied by the relevant extract from the branch meeting minutes. At least four other voting members must second Special Resolutions/Motions submitted by a voting member.
