Congratulations to all of the clubs that saw yet another year of growth in their new member intake. We are very impressed! For clubs that are keen to develop and grow please follow the tips below to help you fly through 2020.
Club success does not come by chance. Generally, successful clubs plan, involve their members and have a great online presence. The steps below will ensure your time is spent on activities which will work and potentially save you going in the wrong direction. They are tried and tested and are delivering results for clubs through the network. The marketing team is on hand Monday-Friday (09:00 - 17:30) to support you. Please do get in touch if you need a helping hand. You can email us or call us on 0151 350 6224.
Step 1 - Audit your club with the Grow your club checklist
Even if you've done it before, the best way to know what areas need work is to go through the checklist again and focus on key points. In around 20 minutes you’ll be able to identify what you can do to grow and retain members in your club.
Step 2 - List your club on Google Maps
The usual first step of someone wishing to learn to dive would be to google "scuba diving in ___________". If your club is listed on Google Maps, it is more likely to show up in the search results for scuba diving in that location. It's such an easy step and so vital to getting your club pout there.
Step 3 - Get reviews and recommendations from your members
Both Facebook and Google Maps have feedback capabilities so utilise your members and get them to recommend your Facebook page, or review your Google Maps listing!
Step 4 - Check your details on BSAC's Find It Tool
Make sure your contact details are correct so that you're receiving the enquiries being sent to you, but it's also worth checking your club facilities and all the information about your club is up to date. These could all impact whether or not someone chooses to contact your club. Branch Officers can now update their club's listing on the Find it Tool via the Club Management System accessed via their MyBSAC page. Alternatively, if you find that your details are incorrect, please email the marketing team so we can update them for you.
Step 5 - Optimise your website
Have 'Learn to dive' and 'Try Dive' pages on your website so that it's easy for potential members and trainees to find out how to get involved. Be welcoming and friendly on your website and make it really clear how to get in touch.
Step 6 - Respond to enquiries within 24 hours
It's been proven that the faster you can respond to an enquiry, the more likely you are to convert them into members or trainees. Leads go cool after 24 hours, much cooler after 48.

Step 7 - Engage your members
Connect with them online and ask them what type of diving and training they want to do more of – for example, shore or RIB; Diver Training Programme or Skill Development Courses. Get events on your Facebook page as soon as possible to fill your trips and courses. And remember to organise regular socials!
Step 8 - Share the load
Delegate tasks! This isn't all up to you and the Branch Officers. Get keen members involved, share the jobs and work as a team.
