Students in possession of a Sports Diver pack may wish to qualify as an Advanced Ocean Diver (AOD) before they have completed all Sports Diver training.
They may want to do this so they are qualified to dive to 30m while they are still in training for the Sports Diver qualification.
How does a Sports Diver trainee qualify as an AOD?
The process for this is as follows:
- The student completes the Payment Required Qualification Card Form. This notifies HQ that the student is being trained towards AOD and covers the small administrative fee.
- Once the theory and practical training has been completed then the lead instructor completes the AOD qualification form.
After both forms have been received at HQ then the student’s MyBSAC record is updated and a qualification card issued.
What are the prerequisites?
Students must:
- Be members of BSAC
- Be an Ocean Diver
- Possess a Sports Diver training pack
Other agency divers who hold a qualification equivalent to Ocean Diver are also eligible but must have completed Nitrox training, such as the BSAC Nitrox workshop.
What training is required?
Students must complete the training below:
Theory lessons
- AOT1 - Introduction to deep diving
- AOT2 or ST3 - Equipment and Techniques
- AOT3 or ST4 - Deeper Diving
- AOT4 or ST5 - Breathing gas planning & systems
