Want to learn how to deliver online learning? In the best BSAC club tradition of sharing knowledge, and following on from their early successes in hosting online training webinars for the wider BSAC community, David Ashmore and his team of instructors are putting together a webinar series to help your branch host your own…

Well… didn’t this blow up, eh? Our first lecture we had a few dozen attendees, but our last dive leader lecture, we had over 90 people taking part. Phenomenal bit of progress, I’d say! I know from conversations I’ve had over the last couple of weeks, that there is demand from other clubs to learn how to do this for their own members.

Getting set up

Many of you will already have had experience with using video-conferencing software like Skype or Zoom, but there may be clubs and individuals out there who haven’t got a clue! I’ll be putting together a short guide on how to get up and running with some of the more common software and sharing that shortly.

Webinars within webinars…?

For those folk who are already up and running with the technology, our team will be hosting a couple of webinar tutorials explaining some simple methods on how to run your lectures using these tools. We’ll be covering the main how-to points, but we'll also include tips and hints which will make things a little easier to manage for the presenter and make things look a whole lot smoother for the audience.

What else?

We’ll be demonstrating some additional methods and websites you can use to engage with your audience. Things like using polling software to run pop-quizzes or creating surveys afterwards to test knowledge in a more meaningful way.

Reading University Further support online training

And finally, if we have time one thing we will try to cover is how to gather information on your attendees. This will help you log participants appropriately so that you have a record of who has taken part in what and, when it comes time to certifying someone, who can be signed off. There are lots of different ways to do this, but we’ll be demonstrating Google forms.

When, where, how long?

We are going to run two identical pilot sessions;

  • Friday 3rd April at 17:45
  • Sunday 5th April at 12:45

Each session will last around 45 minutes with 15 minutes of Q&A at the end. You’ll then have an opportunity, if you’re interested, in seeing our methods put into practice straight afterwards as we will move onto a diver training lecture.

If you would like to take part, please fill in the registration form.

If you have any queries, please send me an email.
