BSAC Chair Maria Harwood calls out to members who may have the skills and time to join volunteer teams working on taking the organisation forwards.

These are challenging times for BSAC and the diving industry. Although we are now starting to see a lifting of lockdown restrictions, the echoes from Covid-19 will have significant long-term effects on the way we operate.

For example, we have had hardly any new members since the start of lockdown, and this will impact on future years membership numbers and revenue. BSAC will need to change in response to this. We also need to become better at using technology to help us in many aspects of what we do.

While we are proud of the e-learning that we have developed, the potential for use of technology stretches well beyond this. Finally, we know how important the environment and our marine heritage is to our members, and we are keen to do more in this area.

Can you help BSAC?

We do not know what the future will look like, only that it will be different. It is a time of new challenges which requires diversity of thought and experience, and we are looking for creative, energetic, and enthusiastic individuals who can help us respond to these challenges.

In particular, we are looking for:

  • People with strategy and business change skills, especially in a digital environment.
  • Proactive policy professionals who can help us with our environmental remit.
  • Individuals with legal and contract management skills.
  • Marketing and communications experts who can improve our engagement with our membership and commercial markets.

We know that our membership has many talents, and so we wonder if you can help? The work will be challenging and occasionally frustrating, and it is of course unpaid. It can also be fulfilling and ultimately rewarding.

If you think you might like to be part of this, then email me and let’s have a chat
