BSAC's East Anglian branch has been getting stuck into some brilliant marine conservation work, led by their Marine Champion, Lucy Johnson. Planning beach clean after beach clean, it’s clear the club is committed to protecting local coastlines.

Recently, members took part in a successful clean, removing large amounts of discarded fishing line and rope. With a spark of creative genius, one of the members repurposed some of the recovered materials for their own art projects – proving that conservation and creativity can go hand in hand.

Fishing line collected will be sent off for recycling, an initiative inspired by SCUBA, the member magazine. Plans are also underway to introduce a permanent collection point at the club hut, making it easier for members to contribute throughout the diving season.

East Anglian beach clean

Riding the waves of this success, the exciting schedule of activities continues with more litter picks set for the end of May and again in September. In August, members will swap their litter pickers for rock pools, exploring marine life and engaging with the local environment in a different way.

Although diving activity off the Norfolk coast is currently on hold due to low visibility, the club is making the most of their time by focusing on community-driven initiatives. With regular events every other month, the East Anglian club is building momentum and making a real difference... one beach clean at a time.
