Stuntman, movie double and newly appointed BSAC snorkel ambassador, Andy Torbet dropped in on the first ever Scoob and Snork Fest event near Nottingham on Saturday 12th July – with a skydive-to-scuba from 5,000ft.
Andy, together with his jump partner Ally Milne, turned heads skywards with a dual jump trailing smoke, before landing moments later, bang on target with a SPLASH!

While their parachute canopies settled gently into the water of west lake at Spring Lakes, onlookers cheered as the daring duo switched to scuba for a quick underwater swim and triumphant re-emergence.

This impressive stunt – billed as the first ever of its kind, outside of a military setting - marked the start of a day of fun in and around the water. The event was organised by Mark Griffin, owner at Diverstime, a BSAC Centre based at Nottinghamshire’s newest open water dive centre.

The vibe was of a summer party crossed with a large family get-together and set to upbeat tunes from the on-site DJ, where attendees had the option of Try Dives and Try Snorkel sessions in the inviting lake. The BSAC East Midlands Regional Team were also on hand providing Try Tech sessions on a choice of rebreathers.

Tunes to dive for
Andy’s early dip in the lake inspired many more to hit the water, either to scuba with friends or snorkel to check out the large schools of resident perch and a few pike. Divers were encouraged to look out for an oversized dinosaur attraction now living on the bottom.

The event was supported by Apeks, Cressi, Dynamic Nord and other training centres including Dive with Jimmy (a BSAC Technical centre in Bedford), Apneists UK, and Skegness Aquarium who offer shark diving. Members visited from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, with some travelling from as far away as the north west and South Wales to take part in the fun.

What a fantastic day! We had a blast watching Andy and Ally arrive by parachute into our lake, and that was only the start of it. Thank you to all our friends and supporters who came and made the most of the glorious weather for the festival. We recommend members take a leaf out of Andy’s book and invite everyone to ‘jump in’ here at Spring Lakes – as a BSAC training centre you can come and do your diver training, instructor courses, or snorkel training with us and just have fun!
