BSAC’s Advanced Ocean Diver qualification is a new modular course created to support qualified Ocean Divers’ transition to Sports Diver training while extending their maximum diving depth.
This completely optional course has been launched in response to a clear need for BSAC training to be more commercially competitive for BSAC Centres. It also offers our newly qualified members greater choice and flexibility as to how they progress their initial diver training, whether with a BSAC club or centre.
Upon successfully completing Advanced Ocean Diver, students will be able to dive to a maximum depth of 30m, accompanied by a Sports Diver (or equivalent) or above. Their dive must be a no-decompression dive in conditions the Advanced Ocean Diver has already experienced during their Ocean Diver training.
Advanced Ocean Diver is open to all qualified Ocean Divers (or other agency equivalent) aged 14 or over. This optional course is intended to complement and not supersede Sports Diver, which remains a vital element of the BSAC Diver Training Programme.
BSAC clubs can now offer Advanced Ocean Diver as part of their member recruitment, diver training and progression programme.
The Advanced Ocean Diver instructor manual is also available to download.
To support BSAC instructors and clubs to incorporate Advanced Ocean Diver into their Diver Training Programme, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions on the new Advanced Ocean Diver course.

Sports Diver trainees can also be awarded the Advanced Ocean Diver qualification as an interim step. You can find more information about how to do this here.
