A litter-strewn beach in the Cayman Islands which is home to three turtle nests has been cleaned up, thanks to the efforts of the local BSAC club.

Turtle beachCayman Islands Divers were dismayed to learn that the white sand beach had been left covered by discarded piles of rubbish.

One of the club members, Raquel Tobian, was disgusted to find a lot of litter on Seven Mile Beach in an area where there are three turtle nests.

Raquel, with the help of club members (and one guest), as well as the club’s Marine Champion Samantha Cooper, collected nine bags of litter which could have otherwise found its way into the marine environment.

Samantha said:

Hopefully that is three nests of turtle hatchlings that will have a safe passage to the sea, plus a section of our most famous beach restored to a decent condition.
