As we mark Volunteers’ Week 2025 (3–9 June), BSAC would like to take a moment to shine a spotlight on the incredible people who make our organisation not only possible but extraordinary.
BSAC is, at its heart, a volunteer-led community. From our instructors and dive managers to branch officers and event organisers, the success of our diving family depends on people who give their time, energy, and passion freely. They are the backbone of everything we do.
Why volunteer with BSAC?
Volunteering with BSAC is about more than just lending a hand — it’s about becoming part of a vibrant, supportive community built around shared values and a love of the underwater world. Whether you're helping a new diver take their first breath underwater or organising social events at your local branch, your contribution helps others thrive — and brings enormous personal reward too.
Here are just a few of the benefits of volunteering:
- Make a difference – You’ll be directly contributing to the growth and success of your club, your community, and BSAC as a whole.
- Build confidence and skills – From teaching and mentoring to leadership and event planning, volunteering is a great way to develop new abilities.
- Meet like-minded people – BSAC volunteers often form strong, lasting friendships through shared experiences and mutual support.
- Be part of something bigger – Our volunteers uphold BSAC’s values and help shape the future of diving in the UK and beyond.
Volunteering roles come in all shapes and sizes
Whether you have a few hours to spare each month or can make a regular commitment, there's a role for everyone. Instructors, dive marshals, welfare officers, social secretaries, treasurers — the list goes on. Every contribution, big or small, helps make BSAC clubs the welcoming, high-quality training environments they are today.
A heartfelt thank you
To all our volunteers, past and present: thank you. Your dedication keeps BSAC moving forward and inspires others to dive in, explore more, and give back. You are mentors, role models, and friends — and we are endlessly grateful.
If you're not yet involved and are wondering how you could help, take a look at the opportunities to volunteer with BSAC. There’s a role for everyone, and the impact you can make is huge.
Let’s celebrate Volunteers’ Week together — by recognising, thanking, and championing the volunteers who keep BSAC afloat.
