This International Women’s Day, BSAC is celebrating the incredible women who make up our diving and snorkelling community.

From trainees to instructors, club officers to expedition leaders and ocean restoration pioneers, women play a vital role in shaping the future of our sport.

Voices from our community

To mark International Women’s Day, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the amazing women who call BSAC their diving home. Here’s what they have to say about their diving and BSAC journey:

Julie TurneyJulie Turney, Assistant Diving Instructor

Diving has given me confidence, adventure and lifelong friendships. The support from Mercian Divers has been amazing and I now love helping new divers take their first breaths underwater as I know where it could take them!

Emily CunninghamEmily Cunningham, marine biologist and BSAC member

Diving has connected me to the ocean in ways I never imagined. Being part of BSAC means I’m always learning and sharing my passion for marine conservation.

Sarah CooperSarah Cooper, Equivalent to Ocean Diver

I am loving it, there is an adventure around every corner! I’ve never felt more welcome. It’s an incredible community, and I’d encourage more women to give it a go.

Encouraging more women and girls to dive

BSAC is committed to making diving and snorkelling accessible for everyone. We want more women and girls to experience the thrill, freedom and camaraderie that comes with being part of the BSAC diving community. If you’re thinking about learning to dive or getting back into the water, there’s a BSAC club ready to welcome you!

This International Women’s Day, we invite all our members — women and men alike — to celebrate the achievements of the women and girls in our diving community. If you have a story to share, tag us on social media and join the conversation.

You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), YouTube or BlueSky. Please use #BSACdivers to tag us in!

Let’s keep making diving more inclusive, welcoming, and inspiring for all.
