Many clubs are experiencing an increase in new member enquiries, thanks to improved online presence from up-to-date websites, to regular social media updates. Here are some top tips to help convert new member enquiries into all-important members…
1. Get back to enquiries within 24 hours
If it means making it someone’s sole job, do it. A friendly, short and swift response will make a huge difference to converting those leads to members. If they haven’t dived before, suggest that they come along for a Try Dive session at your club. Or if they are already trained they could perhaps take a Scuba Refresher or simply come for a club visit. Pick a date that’s good for them and your club and go from there. Confirm the visit in an email, but don’t overwhelm them with information about your club (unless they specifically ask for it).
2. Confirmations and chase ups
If you haven't heard back from an enquiry after providing them with information, chase them up a few days later. If they book in for a Try Dive/Scuba Refresher/visit, send a final confirmation email or call them a few days before to remind them of the details.

Enthusiasm is infectious!
Current members are your biggest asset in bringing new members into the fold - their genuine excitement and enjoyment of the sport is the best free advertisement your club can attain.

3. Involve your members. Enthusiasm is infectious!
Whether they are recent additions to the club or life-long loyalists, include other members in your Try Dive/Scuba Refresher (or other type of visit) who can talk about their experiences.
4. Follow the converting visitors guide
Read and follow the ‘Converting Try Dive visitors to members’ guide, available at bsac.com/converttrydives. This guide outlines the best ways to utilise your skills and convert those visits to all important members. The principles in this guide can also be applied to visits by already trained divers.
