BSAC clubs thrive on the enthusiasm, ideas and involvement of their members. Whether you’re newly qualified, returning to the water or a long-standing club diver, there are loads of ways to get stuck in and help your club flourish in 2026.

Here are five brilliant membership activities to inspire you and your buddies.

1. Organise a litter pick or beach clean

Giving back to the places we love to dive is one of the most fulfilling things you can do as a BSAC member. A simple litter pick or beach clean helps protect wildlife, improves local waters and makes a visible impact on your community.

It’s also a great way to attract new members, connect with local organisations and raise awareness of marine conservation. Keep it fun, safe and social — and celebrate the difference you make.

2. Arrange a club meal or social event

A strong club is built on friendships, not just fins and kit. Organising a meal, picnic, BBQ, pub night or even a themed social is a brilliant way to bring members together.

It helps new members find their feet, gives long-time members a chance to reconnect, and strengthens the bonds that make club diving so enjoyable. A good social calendar often makes the whole club feel more active and welcoming.

3. Set a fundraising target and inspire your members

A fundraising challenge gives your club a shared focus and a feel-good goal. Whether you’re raising money for new equipment, upgrading training resources or supporting a marine charity, a clear target can bring everyone together.

From sponsored swims and kit raffles to bake sales and fun challenges, there are plenty of creative ways to get involved. Celebrate progress, keep members updated — and enjoy the sense of achievement when you hit your goal.

4. Hold a photo competition and share the results

Underwater photography is booming — and you don’t need a huge camera rig to enjoy it. A club photo competition is a fun way to recognise your members’ creativity and celebrate UK diving and snorkelling.

You can run it annually, use simple categories ('Best Wildlife,' 'Club Spirit,' 'Most Atmospheric') and share the winning shots across your social media.

It’s a great engagement tool, showcases your club’s activities and inspires others to join in.

5. Join the committee and help shape your club

Clubs are strongest when members bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. Joining the committee — even in a small role — is one of the most rewarding ways to contribute.

Whether it’s helping with training, comms, social events, welfare or equipment, committee roles are a fantastic way to develop new skills and make a real impact. If you’ve ever wondered how things work behind the scenes, 2026 might be the perfect year to put your hand up.

Make 2026 the year you dive in

You don’t need to be the most experienced member to make a difference. Clubs grow and thrive when people get involved, support each other and bring new ideas to the table.

Pick one (or all!) of these activities and help make your club stronger, more active and even more welcoming this year.
