Divers are invited to join BSAC online at 7pm on Monday 2 November for the Incident Report 2025 presentation.

During the session Jim Watson, BSAC Safety and Development Officer will outline key findings from UK diving incidents reported between 1 January and 31 December 2025, and what they mean for all of us in the water.

Every year, BSAC collects and analyses reports of diving incidents across the UK. That covers divers from all agencies and backgrounds, not just BSAC members, plus BSAC members diving anywhere in the world. The result is the Annual Diving Incident Report, one of the most valuable sources of safety insight in UK diving.

On Monday 2 November at 7pm Jim Watson will present the main findings from the 2025 report online. You’ll hear what the data shows, which themes stood out and what practical lessons divers, instructors and clubs can take into their own diving.

The webinar is free and open to everyone, whether you’re a BSAC member, trained with another agency, or simply care about diving safely. Bring your questions.

Why incident reporting matters

Every report, whether it’s a serious incident or a 'near miss', adds to a clearer picture of what really happens underwater and why. Reports come from organisations such as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the RNLI, the HSE and DDRC Healthcare, but most come from individual divers who were willing to share their experience.

That information makes a real difference. Over many years, BSAC and other UK training agencies have used the report’s findings to:

  • Spot trends in diving safety early
  • Revise training programmes and safety guidance
  • Address issues raised by new equipment and technology
  • Give every diver the chance to learn from others’ experiences instead of their own mistakes
