This year marks a significant milestone for Elite Diving, a BSAC centre nestled in the heart of the Red Sea.
Celebrating 20 years of underwater adventures, Elite Diving has become synonymous with exceptional diving experiences, personalised service, and a deep-rooted passion for the marine world.
History and BSAC origins
Alun Evans joined BSAC back in 1984 and learned to dive with his local BSAC branch and progressed through the ranks from novice diver to Open Water Instructor (OWI) and eventually Explorer Mixed Gas Instructor. After being made redundant at 46 years old, in 2002, he moved to Sharm to have a sabbatical and work in the recreational diving industry.
He had been to Sharm many times by then on club and individual trips as it was such an easy place to get to with such great coral reefs and marine life, and found himself working for a dive centre for three years before branching out to form Elite Diving.
Together with his wife Moyra, Alun founded Elite Diving in 2005 with a commitment to providing unparalleled diving experiences. In 2008, they expanded their horizons by acquiring Divers United, further solidifying their presence in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

These honours underscore Elite Diving's commitment to providing top-tier diving services and fostering a welcoming community for divers of all levels.
Reflecting on the centre's 20th year of training BSAC divers, Alun Evans said:
Over the years we have certified more than 500 BSAC divers, from Ocean Diver to Dive Leader.
We have built a very experienced team of dive professionals and they are also selected for their enthusiasm and love of the underwater realm. It's also their passion! Here's to another successful 20 years.
As a centre the team dives the Thistlegorm wreck almost weekly and every year also on the anniversary of its sinking. On the 75th Anniversary divers placed a biodegradable poppy wreath on the ship, helped by two ex-Royal Naval personnel. Alun explained:
We usually get approx 26 people each year dive on her for her anniversary. It's also my birthday so as it's my favorite dive it's a double whammy!
The team at Elite Diving's priority is safety, but customer service - and fun - comes a very close second and third.
