BSAC has just launched its new Propulsion Techniques Workshop - the latest Skill Development Course to support BSAC members looking to refine their diving techniques.
From trainee Ocean Divers all the way to First Class Diver, the new Propulsion skills workshop is aimed at all levels of divers who want to improve their finning. The workshop also forms part of the modular Sports Mixed Gas suite of courses that include Twin-set (or Sidemount), Accelerated Decompression Procedures and Deeper Diving.
Designed to be delivered within BSAC clubs, the new Propulsion workshop covers a wide range of finning techniques and when to use them. The fin kicks are split into power kicks, kicks to reduce the wash from your fins and control kicks for fine positioning. The workshop even covers the pull-and-glide technique for when a fin kick would completely silt out your dive.
Designed to be delivered poolside, the workshop includes a short theory session on when to use which kick and is supported by a suite of reference videos to show you how to perform them properly.

BSAC Technical Chief Alex Warzynski said the new Propulsion Techniques Workshop would support members to get more out of their diving:
Being able to move effortlessly underwater really adds to how much you enjoy a dive. If I need a power kick to move fast, or a control kick to move with precision, having a toolbox full of ways of moving about makes the dive just that bit easier. It’s also much kinder on the environment and your dive buddies get to enjoy a silt-free dive too.
Any Open Water Instructor or above who has either done the workshop themselves or is already a twinset (or higher) instructor can deliver the Propulsion Techniques Workshop.
