If you qualified as a Sports Diver before January 2007 you will not have learned about the benefits of decompression diving with nitrox.

This workshop will bring the following divers up-to-date with the present Sports Diver syllabus, which includes using mixes up to nitrox 36 to reduce mandatory stop times on decompression dives within their qualification.

  • Pre January 2007 qualified Sports Divers, who have already attended an Ocean Diver Nitrox Workshop or hold a BSAC Basic Nitrox Diver qualification (as part of their Ocean Diver qualification)
  • Divers coming in from other agencies.

On this approximately 90 minute theory workshop you will learn to use nitrox on dives planned on the BSAC nitrox tables or a nitrox computer, using a partial pressure of 1.4 bar.

Sessions will cover the use of nitrox for decompression diving, diving within a maximum operating depth for a selected nitrox mix, how to plan a dive using the BSAC nitrox tables or a nitrox computer and the extra considerations when managing nitrox diving. The workshop also covers the physiological implications of breathing enriched oxygen gas mixes, including monitoring oxygen exposure to avoid oxygen toxicity, and the practicalities of how to manage an incident involving oxygen toxicity.

You will be given a student manual containing supporting material.

On completion of this Sports Diver Nitrox Workshop you will have the knowledge necessary to dive safely in open water within your existing qualification using mixes up to nitrox 36 on a decompression dive. You will be able to plan nitrox dives using BSAC nitrox tables or a nitrox computer.

You can apply to BSAC HQ for a qualification card, which will enable you to buy nitrox fills up to nitrox 36 at a gas station.
