BSAC has welcomed its new University Coordinator to the Coaching team, with Leeds-based member Yasmine Thorn stepping into the role.
Currently Chair of Leeds University Union Sub Aqua Club (LUUSAC), Yasmine replaces outgoing University Coordinator, Alex Bicheno.
Working to BSAC’s National Diving Committee (NDC) and its University Project group, the aim of the University Coordinator is to set up a regional network of university coaches to ensure the University club network gets the support it needs.
An Open Water Instructor, Yasmine has been diving since 2012 and joined BSAC in 2016 during her University Fresher year. She is now looking forward to building on the foundations laid by the outgoing University Coordinator to create more targeted and accessible support.
“University clubs are unique in how they run and in the many challenges they face,” Yasmine explained. “In my new role I want to highlight the differences of university branches and create better methods of supporting these clubs as well as encouraging inclusivity.”
Yasmine said the first thing she planned to do in her new BSAC role is to reach out to all the University clubs and find out what they need.
I want uni clubs to know my door is always open, whether you're a member or committee member or prospective member. I will always be here to listen to your views, work with you to find solutions to problems, celebrate successes or just have a friendly chat!
