BSAC members working towards their Open Water Instructor or Advanced Instructor grade are able to complete their training in just a few days.

Known as combined instructor training events, the intensive courses have been run overseas for many years. However, BSAC has recently organised UK-based events which allowed for the same consolidated period of training at a small number of venues, rather than run over multiple weekends.

Both the Open Water Instructor and the Advanced Instructor combined events take just four days.

These combined events have proved to be successful, with a high pass rate, and so more are now being organised. Much of the success of a combined instructor training event is due to the hard work and co-operation of the students who work together and help each other in many ways during the week. The lack of distractions from the home and work life are also helpful.

The instructors are an experienced team, dedicated to making the event a success and available to help almost all the time. The evenings allow for some socialising, with the discussions usually focusing on diving and frequently drifting back to instruction and instructional techniques. All of this adds up to a very high standard being achieved.

If intensive training is easier to manage in your diary than training over multiple weekends, a combined event could be a great choice.
