How to be found at sea
- Lisa Shafe, Eastern region Coach BSAC, RNLI safety volunteer
- Neil Withers, RNLI Area Lifesaving Manager – (London & Thames)
- Nick Fecher, RNLI Water Safety Delivery Support (SE)
During your training you will have learnt how to use an SMB, designed to help the skipper find you at sea. What if the weather has closed in? What if you get caught in a drift that takes you beyond the visual range of the skipper ? (eg round a small Headland or island or even if the weather has picked up and the waves are high). During this presentation we will take you through the various options that are available to you beyond the trusty SMB.
Do you know the difference between the following and how they work?
PLBs – Personal locator beacons
EPIRBs – Emergency position indicator radio beacon
And AIS MOB– Automatic Identification System Man Overboard Device
Come along and find out as well as other useful hints and tips on being found at Sea
