As part of the wider dive community project ‘Mission 2020’ to help the oceans, in 2018 BSAC made the following pledge.

We’ll eliminate single-use plastic from SCUBA magazine and the national & regional training events by end 2018, and from BSAC branded products by World Oceans Day 2020. We’ll continue to promote BSAC’s ‘marine clean’ ethos of making underwater litterpicks, beach cleans and five-a-day litter picking ‘business as usual’ for divers.

Mission 2020 is a collection of pledges from organisations within the diving community to change their business practices in order to help protect and preserve our oceans for the future.

With a primary focus on single-use plastic, the project sets ambitious short term targets of changes to be made before World Oceans Day 2020.

  • We eliminated single-use plastic from its national and regional training events.

In 2019:

  • From November 2019, we stopped automatically issuing annual plastic membership cards for members. Read related news story
