We tested the IC-M23 for a couple of months, first of all, we had to see if it floats - and it does. Indeed, it is waterproof to IPX7, which in layman's terms means it will withstand being at a depth of 1m for 30 minutes. Weighing in at only 260g, it feels lightweight and, thanks to its large buttons on the front panel, can be used while wearing fairly thick (5mm) neoprene gloves. Out on the RIB, we contacted the coastguard for a radio check when we were about 5km from Land's End with no problems at all. We also tested it from RIB to RIB and had a clear signal to almost 10km, which, considering our relatively low height above sea level, was pretty good.
