This page contains details of the development programme for First Class Diver.
First Class Diver Preparation
If you are considering preparing for the First Class Diver exam then BSAC Yorkshire can help. Preparing for this exam is a process that needs to be started well in advance to allow time for development and an appreciation of the level required to achieve a pass (or a merit). There are several FCD preparation events planned for the next 12 months to introduce prospective candidates to the qualification followed by different events designed to develop theory knowledge (ahead of the March 2011 theory exam), practical diving skills and planning/performing underwater tasks.
Event details are as follows:
Registration for BSAC Yorkshire FCD Preparation Group: Open now, Free
Introduction to FCD meeting
Come along to an introductory meeting to learn more about the process of becoming an FCD and about how you can prepare as a group within
Theory Exam preparation
For many who prepare for First Class Diver, obtaining the required level of theory knowledge can be the most daunting experience. BSAC Yorkshire will be running several ad hoc evening theory preparation sessions in pubs or branch meeting venues to discuss theoretical topics and directing learning towards appropriate resources.
Dates: To be decided when group forms
Venue: Pubs or branch meeting venues/clubhouses centrally in
Cost: Free, contribution towards fuel costs for experienced FCDs to assist preppers may be requested.
Underwater Task Preparation
A key element of the first class diver exam is carrying out an underwater task. This event will provide experience of planning, executing and controlling data collection on several underwater tasks. The FCD preparation group will be provided with a brief introduction to the elements required to perform a successful task, a session to concentrate on getting the most out of a dry run followed by the chance to plan and execute tasks using a wide range of techniques.
Date: As future events are organised, details will be posted here.
Personal Diving Skills and Tasks Weekend
No development programme for First Class Divers would be complete without a weekend of diving with a group of like minded people. We are therefore planning to repeat the very successful Practical Development Weekend to a coastal venue (such as Cumbrae) to facilitate preparation for the diving skills, leading skills and underwater tasks element of the FCD exam.
In June 2010 we carried out a survey of the Cumbrae area to allow us to draw conclusions about the diversity of marine life on the various different substrates in the area.
This event will provide the opportunity to plan, organise and carry out underwater tasks, coordinate teams of divers carrying out a task and extend personal diving skills. The event develops divers across many levels but emphasis will be tailored for every participant to ensure everyone receives the maximum benefit.
Date: As future events are organised, details will be posted here.
