malta wreckThe Maltese Islands have recently been voted the premier dive destination in Europe and third best globally by the readers of Diver magazine in their annual Diver Awards – and with good reason.

Malta has diving to suit all; with BSAC accredited schools to help both novices and pros looking for the very best watery hotspot. There are plenty of shallow reef dive sites, some new artificial ones in deeper water, an abundance of wreck dives and plenty of great spots for shore diving too.

The calmness of the sea makes for excellent visibility and the wildlife danger risk is extremely low, creating an ultimate location for first time divers and beginners. For the more experienced divers, there are various sites that include archaeological artefacts, some from WWII, some even dating back to the Roman era. ??The depths of the dives vary, from the very shallow 12-metre Ghar Lapsi dive to Lantern Point, which takes divers to an underwater tunnel that leads down well over 50 meters.

Useful information:
Climate:malta marine

Water temperatures:
In winter, water temperatures average 18 C in shallow waters and colder at depth whist summer water temperatures average 25 C in shallow water but again colder at depth.

Depending on the school, rates for initial open water courses vary from EUR 280 – 360. Single dives arranged by a school range from EUR 23 – 35 whilst gear for a single dive ranges from EUR 8 – 12.
