Wales Region
In Wales we are fortunate to have what we consider to be the best coastline in the UK. This comment is not made lightly! We have the Gower, the Pembrokeshire Coast and Islands, Cardigan Bay; and in the North, the Lleyn, and Bardsey, and, of course, Anglesey. We have spectacular marine life, multiple wrecks and, yes, seals that chew on your fins.
In the Wales Region we are heavily into building up ‘The Team’. By this we mean getting clubs and divers to work together.
In 2007 we launched our Regional Training support aimed at helping clubs or individuals in moving along or completing their training. And in 2009 we look forward to developing this further by working in conjunction with WASAC, the governing body for the sport in Wales, to run training events abroad. Over the last year a number of events have been run for developing instructors. This will continue but will also include updates and refreshers for Instructor Trainers.
A great success of the last year has been the development of our Regional Expedition programme. Over the summer seven organised trips were undertaken involving 178 divers and a total of 336 dives. The trips were open to all grades and a fantastic time was had by all, diving sites as The Smalls, Barrel Rock and The North Bishop. In 2009 we look to continue the programme and extend to include expeditions in North Wales. These act as a great opportunity for divers to meet, dive new sites, see new techniques and generally develop their diving (whilst having a bit of fun).
