National Awards

National Awards

heinke
Since its formation in 1953, BSAC has acquired a number of awards and trophies covering the whole spectrum of amateur diving activity.

While most awards are granted as the result of decisions taken by BSAC Council or National Diving Committee, branches and individuals with a good chance of winning one are often overlooked because BSAC is not informed, or because an application or nomination for an award is not received in time.

It is hoped that the factsheet will acquaint members with the range and scope of BSAC awards and trophies, and give further encouragement to nominate members, or apply on behalf of the branch.

The Heinke Trophy

2009 Heinke Trophy winners:

Edinburgh University Sub-Aqua Club for high achievement and service to their members.

Among Edinburgh University SAC's achievements was to establish a special policy for retention of their graduate members and initiating comprehensive use of the branch website and emails to keep all members regularly in touch with one another, and of their diving and other activities.

Around 2,500 dives were undertaken during the year from a branch membership of just under 100. Their water training was comprehensive, well organised, and enjoyable. An extensive range of courses were attended and a significant number of qualifications achieved. The branch was a happy and a friendly one.

Sarah Boys, from EUSAC, said the award has given a real boost to the club in a significant year for all its members."EUSAC applied for the Heinke in recognition of how hard and  enthusiastically our members worked for so many achievements in the club's 40th year. We’re so proud to have won - it's pretty easy to spot EUSAC-ers in Edinburgh at the moment, we’re the ones with huge grins on our faces! And to clubs who are thinking of applying, there is no better way to say ‘thanks’ to your members!"

Two other branches demonstrated a high level of achievement - Southsea Sub Aqua Club and SUCS, the Sub-Aqua Club of Southampton Solent University. These branches have been awarded Certificates of Commendation.
