BSAC to launch a brand new members’ magazine
We’re delighted to announce that BSAC is creating an all-new monthly magazine for our members and the diving community.
The first issue of SCUBA will be launched in November 2011, marking an exciting new phase in the growth and development of BSAC as the UK voice of diving and snorkelling today.
SCUBA will succeed DIVE as the official magazine of BSAC and forms part of an on-going drive to listen to our members and improve the way we communicate with you.
Building on the positive legacy of previous Club magazines, SCUBA will provide everything that you would expect from a market-leading title. Its content will be developed in response to what YOU want in your magazine, including more news, stories and features on UK and BSAC club diving as well as all the important developments in our sport. In addition, SCUBA will ensure:
- The BSAC magazine continues to be innovative, attractive, interesting and relevant to our members
- BSAC has the opportunity to manage and grow our own magazine, providing a clearer voice for our members as well as the diving community as a whole.
While DIVE has served us well for 12 years, the time was right to go out to tender for a new publisher. A total of 10 applicants expressed an interest in publishing the BSAC magazine and we shortlisted four of them. The standard of all four bids on the shortlist was exceptionally high, including the one from the publishers of DIVE.
The successful bid came from TRMG, who have a fantastic track record of producing over 300 top quality sporting magazines annually, including programmes for Formula One, Moto GP, the World Rally Championship, the Rugby Football Union’s official magazine and the London Boat Show.
Clare Peddie, the Chair of BSAC, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have TRMG on board. They have a tremendous pedigree as publishers of sporting magazines and their bid to produce SCUBA was outstanding. SCUBA will be a bespoke member and newsstand magazine that is being created to position BSAC as the UK voice of diving today.”
Managing Director Jon Fellows, who helped set up TRMG Ltd 21 years ago, said:
“We want to provide a clearer line of communication with BSAC members as well as appeal to all divers. SCUBA will be a magazine that will work for BSAC and its members, will encourage more people to come into the sport and will provide quality content that all divers will want to read.”
Mary Tetley, Chief Executive of BSAC, said she was looking forward to going into 2012 – the Olympic year – with a brand new magazine for BSAC members and the sport:
“Our magazine is a vital part of the way we communicate with our members and ensures we provide you with the essential information you need to get the best out of your membership.
“SCUBA will be developed in response to the recent BSAC member survey and to our members’ feedback on what they want to read. This is YOUR magazine and we want you to get involved – with your stories, your news and your views.”
