The East Midlands region covers, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Rutland and Northamptonshire.

Notwithstanding the fact that we have to travel to get to the sea, the East Midlands has a thriving and committed diving community. Most of us get to dive in several different parts of the country.

We also have a strong and experienced regional team, that wants to offer support to divers and clubs alike. We aim to continue to offer a programme of courses and workshops that will enable our local branches to thrive, develop the types of diving they do, and attract new members.

We are always happy to provide information, advice and guidance to both branches and individual divers.

Your Regional Coach

Jeff Roberts

About Jeff Roberts, East Midlands Region Coach

I’ve been diving within BSAC for over 30 years and I am a longstanding Advanced Diver and Advanced Instructor. I’ve dived extensively in the UK and overseas, often with my club Rolls-Royce (Derby) SAC. I’ve had some fantastic experiences diving and made many good friends. I’ve always believed that the BSAC club system is the best way to dive, and I have always enjoyed helping out within that system.

In recent years, I have been involved with the regional team as a rebreather coordinator and instructor. I teach MOD 1 (entry-level) and MOD 2 (trimix) CCR courses on AP units. But I’m not just about “technical” diving, I enjoy all types of diving and club life myself, and I am happy to instruct at any level.

I am pleased to step up to the position of Regional Coach to try to help the region and its clubs and divers emerge from the effects of Covid, and get full value from the sport we all love.

Learning from each other—sharing our experiences and knowledge—is really powerful. Take advantage of opportunities to do that so you can do the sort of diving you want to do in a safe and enjoyable way. If you’re curious about or keen to take your next step, that’s maybe where the region can help

How we help and support divers and clubs in the East Midlands Region

The regional team can help divers and clubs within the East Midlands in any number of ways.

We run regional events, advertised and available to book on the BSAC website, that you can attend as an individual.

Or if you have a group wanting a particular course, we can help your club(s) to organise and run an in-branch Skill Development Course (SDC).

If there are particular events you would like to see run, then please let me know. We want to offer what the region’s divers need!

We can also offer other support and advice for clubs, do get in touch if you think we might be able to help.

Training and events in the East Midlands Region

The East Midlands Regional team is a highly qualified one, able to offer support and assistance in setting up, running or providing guidance for all of diver-grade courses and most SDCs. If you prefer more technical courses, we teach Accelerated Decompression Procedures and Twin-Set Diver, as well as rebreather and trimix (Helium) courses.

Please drop me an email if you have any questions or queries or, alternatively, have a look at the courses available.

Want to join the regional coaching team?

We always welcome enthusiastic and committed instructors who wish to join the East Midlands regional team. Any qualified instructor can join us, and it’s the perfect place for newly qualified OWIs to hone their skills and more experienced instructors to keep their hand in and support others.

Being a regional team instructor gives you the opportunity to teach a variety of SDCs, as well as aspects of the diver training programme, or to develop and become an ‘Approved’ instructor for a number of specialist SDCs.

If you wish to help instruct on an event or want to learn something new to take back to your club, get in touch.
