As a Marine Champion, you’ll organise marine environment projects within your club, as well as help BSAC spread the conservation message. It could be a project devised by your own members, a regular club get-together to clean up a waterway or a coordinated involvement in a BSAC initiative. Or all of the above!
To whet your appetite, here are just some of the BSAC marine environment activities you will be asked to champion within your club:
Underwater Litter Picks/Beach Cleans
Whether it is a one-off event or incorporated into your club’s dive trip season, organising regular marine litter picks both underwater and along the shoreline means that all of your club can get involved.

Operation Oyster
One of BSAC’s largest citizen science projects, Operation Oyster works to gather data on the location of the remaining populations of the UK’s declining native oyster populations. Operation Oyster surveys can be carried out all around the UK by divers, snorkellers or even groups on the shore.

Motion for the Ocean
BSAC has teamed up with Motion for the Ocean - a powerful initiative helping local councils (both inland and on the coast) take real action to improve the health of UK rivers and seas. BSAC clubs can get involved by lobbying their local councils to take action for the marine environment.
